RiverRenew Tunnel System Project, Electrical Support

Our team was selected to perform electrical work on the RiverRenew Tunnel System Project as a subcontractor to the Traylor – Shea Joint Venture. The project involves design and construction of a storage and conveyance tunnel system, pumping stations, and a wet weather treatment plant, located within one mile of our East Coast office in Old Town Alexandria. Once complete, RiverRenew will capture 98% of combined sewer flows and reduce the frequency of sewer and rainwater overflows into local rivers and streams from 70 to fewer than four times per year.
Sterling’s work on the project includes electrical support for substation MV terminations, permanent service, generator power, grout mixing to support tunnel excavation, and underground conduit installation for the air compressor station. Sterling also energized the 35 KV 480V transformer for nine of the deep well pumps that are used to keep the ground water pressure below the level of the shafts.
